  • Being “inventive” is not the same as “improvisation.”

    Improvisation is actually mostly a result of learning. But “inventive” means invention. I imagine it as bringing out the necessary answers in the moment, one after another, rather than building them structurally.

    To do that, you need a foundation of culture and knowledge. And you must always keep yourself open and relaxed. Don’t arm yourself with a blueprint; you have to spend your days just being blank and open🫠. You have a vast database inside your body, and you can instantly bring out the right thing at any given moment.

    The inventive music I imagine is like this: the sound being made right now keeps spinning a “part” that feels right even for the next sound—a future sound that doesn’t exist yet but holds potential. It’s not about searching a database, or making the parts fit into a whole.
